Frequently asked questions
If you have a question not covered here, talk to our team.
Do I need a Chinese entity to use BuffMoney?
No. BuffMoney operates platform-of-record (代收) collection under ePayments's China payments license. Your business stays incorporated in your home jurisdiction; we collect CNY on your behalf and remit settlement in your chosen currency.
Which payment methods do my Chinese customers see?
WeChat Pay and Alipay — the two dominant methods covering ~95% of Chinese consumer payments. Native (QR), JSAPI (in-app), and H5 (mobile web) flows are supported. Bank cards are not in scope for v1.
How long until I receive my first payout?
Once KYB review is approved (1–3 business days typically), you can immediately start ingesting usage events. Settlement batches run monthly with two-admin approval, then wire to your bank within 5 business days. Weekly payout is available on the Growth tier.
What FX rate do you use?
We lock an FX snapshot at the moment each invoice is generated, based on the Bank of China midpoint (BOC midpoint) plus a transparent spread (35–50 basis points depending on tier). The snapshot is bound to that invoice — market FX moves between snapshot and payout don't affect what you receive.
What happens when a customer requests a refund?
Initiate the refund from your merchant dashboard or via API. We post a reverse ledger transaction, mark the invoice as refunded, and instruct WeChat / Alipay to return the funds. Refund SLA is best-effort within 5 business days. We don't charge a fee on refunds.
Is this compliant with Chinese payment regulations?
Yes. ePayments holds the payment institution license required to collect on behalf of overseas merchants. We perform KYB on every merchant, screen for sanctions, monitor velocity and unusual activity, and maintain a 7-year audit trail in line with PBOC requirements.
What does the actual fee breakdown look like?
Each invoice shows: ePayments transaction fee (2–3% of subtotal, collected by the licensed payment processor — WeChat / Alipay channel fees are absorbed inside this line), FX spread (35–50 bps, locked at invoice time), and your BuffMoney Usage-based billing subscription (Growth $9.99/mo, Scale custom). Payout is free above USD 5,000 per batch, otherwise a USD 25 wire fee. See the full breakdown on the Pricing page.
Can I use BuffMoney if I'm not strictly an AI company?
The platform is optimized for AI / SaaS usage-based billing (tokens, image generations, agent runs, storage). General SaaS subscription and per-seat billing also work. We're not currently set up for physical goods, marketplace, or pure consumer e-commerce.
How does usage-based billing work in practice?
You POST one event per metered action to our ingestion endpoint (or use the SDK). Events accumulate against a contract (customer + rate card). At cycle close, we sum events by metric, apply your rate card, and generate an invoice in your settlement currency. The CNY amount your end-user pays is derived from the locked FX snapshot.
What about taxes — do you handle them?
You're responsible for tax obligations (income tax, VAT/GST, withholding) in your home country. We provide settlement statements, ledger exports, and audit logs sufficient for filings. We don't provide tax advice. For Chinese tax exposure, your platform-of-record arrangement with us generally means no direct Chinese tax obligation for you, but consult your accountant.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Either party can terminate the agreement with 60 days' written notice. Pending settlement balances (less reserve) are paid out in the final batch after channel reconciliation completes.
